Removal of 'spinning wheel' enhanced mode from CEN ISO 14819-1
When the standard for the coding protocol for TMC, CEN ISO 14819-1, was originally drafted and published, provision was made for defining the encoding and broadcasting either in a 'normal mode' or in an 'enhanced mode', also known as 'spinning wheel' mode.
No TMC devices or service providers today are understood to use this enhanced mode. A survey of potentially affected parties did not reveal any concerns. As a result, the enhanced mode option will be removed from the protocol definition in 14819-1 at the next revision, for which drafting is scheduled for Q2 of 2009.
Please be aware of this forthcoming change. Any organisations depending on the use of this enhanced mode that have not yet signalled this use to TISA or CEN are urged to do so immediately, via the TISA Executive Office (s.chaufton@tisa.org or j.burgess@tisa.org).
