TISA member NAVIGON will provide its customers in Sweden, Norway and Finland, with sophisticated road and traffic information with automatic updates. This new service, which goes by the name of Premium TMC, includes VARO, which is the Traffic’s advanced weather alert system, from TISA member Destia to warn satnav users of sudden changes in road conditions such as ice, black ice (which is invisible to drivers), snow on roads or falling snow.

VARO compiles and processes data from a large number of sources, such as weather radar, short-term forecasts, weather forecasting and road condition modelling, weather satellites, images from road cameras and information from roadworkers (available only in Finland). VARO has been developed in consultation with the Finnish meteorological institute, and it is already in use in Sweden, Finland and Norway.
